Pixel 7a battery swelling prompts free replacements from Google

0

Google’s battery issues aren’t over just yet. Earlier this year, the Pixel 4a received a firmware tweak that lowered its battery capacity. Now, it’s the Pixel 7a’s turn, with some units experiencing unexpected battery swelling. The company has launched a new Pixel 7a battery swelling repair program to address this.

On Google’s support site, the company confirms that certain Pixel 7a batteries might swell, causing the back cover to bulge or even separate from the chassis. If your device shows symptoms like visible swelling, fast battery drain, or a case that’s physically splitting apart, you may be eligible for a free battery replacement.

But there are conditions. You’ll need to enter your IMEI number on Google’s support page to confirm if your unit qualifies. The phone also has to be in relatively good shape—heavily damaged or water-exposed units won’t make the cut.

Google offers two main solutions:

  • Free walk-in or mail-in repair (available in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, and Singapore).

  • In countries without repair options—like Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the EEA—you might qualify for a one-time payment of $200 (or local equivalent), or $300 in Google Store credit.

There’s also a $456 payout for users in unsupported regions with warranty coverage, but this excludes those in the US and India.

So yeah, if your Pixel 7a battery swelling looks sketchy, don’t wait. Check your eligibility now—before your phone decides to pop like a Pringle.
