Galaxy Z Flip 7 to use Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, not Exynos

Samsung has made its decision. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 chip won’t be the Exynos 2500 after all. Instead, Samsung’s next foldable will run on the overclocked ‘for Galaxy’ version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

This report comes via PandaFlash on X, which says the Snapdragon chip in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has already passed internal testing, including network connectivity, and that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will also use the same SoC.

If you’ve been following the chip rumors, this news might come as a relief. Earlier this year, there were concerns that Samsung would equip the Z Flip 7 with the Exynos 2500 to cut costs. But that chip apparently faced production challenges, and possibly other issues too. We actually covered this back in February when the first signs of a Snapdragon pivot started to emerge.

The real question now is price. Samsung was said to be aiming for the same $1,099 price tag as the Z Flip 6. But with U.S. tariffs now in play, that may no longer be possible. The Snapdragon chip doesn’t come cheap, and neither do trade penalties.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to launch in July or August, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and a few other devices at Samsung’s next Unpacked event. Whether or not the price stays put, the switch to Snapdragon means one thing for sure: performance won’t be a problem.
