Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, a smartphone designed with photography enthusiasts in mind, over in China. The device, which takes inspiration from classic 35mm film cameras, features a bold new design with a silver stripe and black faux leather finish, giving it a distinct retro aesthetic.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM, along with a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with a 3200 x 1440 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The real highlight, however, is the camera system. While the trio of 50MP sensors—wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto—are impressive, the star of the show is the 200MP periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi is also continuing to use a 1-inch sensor. This larger sensor will allow for more light, which should result in higher quality photos.
Powering the device is a 6,000mAh battery, with support for 90W wired and 80W wireless charging. One thing to note is that the battery isn’t your run-of-the-mill lithium-ion battery. Xiaomi has opted for a silicon-carbon battery. This allows the company to create a battery with a larger capacity without increasing its physical size. This seems to be a trend we’re seeing in more smartphones these days, like with the OPPO Find N5.
The phone also runs on Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi’s latest software interface. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra launches in China for 6,499 yuan (~$900), with a global release expected on March 2. Check back with us at MWC 2025 for more details on its global availability!
