Adobe is finally bringing Photoshop to the iPhone—Android later

Photo editing on your smartphone has always been meh. Most photo editing software offers basic editing capabilities, which is fine if you’re not fussy. For years, mobile users have wanted a true Photoshop experience—not just watered-down apps with the Photoshop name. Now, that’s finally happening. Adobe has announced that it is bringing Photoshop onto the iPhone.

Adobe’s Photoshop has always existed in some variation on mobile devices. However, those versions have always felt like a poor imitation of the desktop version of the software. It was only Photoshop in name, but not in functionality. So when Adobe launched a more powerful Photoshop for iPad five years ago, it felt like a step in the right direction. But one key piece was still missing—Photoshop for the iPhone.

Now, Adobe has announced that they are bringing that version of Photoshop onto the iPhone. It won’t be the exact same app. Obviously, the difference in screen size between the iPad and iPhone will limit some features. However, the iPhone version will support Adobe’s PSD format. You can transfer edits from your PC to your iPhone and edit them seamlessly, and vice versa. Adobe is also including some of its Adobe Firefly generative AI tools.

Of course, power comes at a price. While Photoshop for iPhone is free to download, unlocking its full potential requires a subscription. If you plan to only make edits on your mobile device, Adobe has also announced a new Photoshop Mobile & Web plan. This is priced at $7.99 per month or $69.99 per year. This is considerably cheaper than Adobe’s regular subscription.

As for Android users, don’t worry, Adobe hasn’t forgotten about you. The company mentions that it will be available “soon”. Android users can sign up on Adobe’s website and get notified when the beta is available for download. For years, mobile editing has been limited—but with Photoshop on iPhone (and soon Android), pro-level tools are finally within reach. The mobile era of Photoshop has officially begun.
