It has been a couple of years since Google’s Pixel 7 phones were launched. However, recent reports from Pixel 7 users participating in the Android 16 beta program indicate a concerning issue: random reboots are happening, especially during voice calls.
According to multiple users, their phones seem to be unexpectedly rebooting while amid conversations. This makes the devices unusable for several minutes until the reboot process is complete. One user claims that out of ten calls, their phone restarted four to five times mid-conversation. That’s an alarming number of reboots! Another user experienced automatic reboots every three to seven minutes during calls. It also resulted in their call logs being erased.
The issue appears to be associated with specific build numbers. This includes the BP22.250103.008 build. It alsoaffects various models within the Pixel 7 lineup. Luckily, Google has acknowledged the problem in its issue tracker, and has designated it as a high-priority “P2” issue. A Google employee responded to the complaints by saying, “We have shared this with our product and engineering team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.”
A potential solution for users impacted by this bug is to revert back to a stable Android 15 channel. Otherwise, it’s going to be something you’ll have to put up with. That being said, it’s an important reminder that this can happen with beta software.
Beta software still has kinks that need to be ironed out. It’s usually fine if you want to take a look around before the software is released, but using it as a daily driver can result in problems like this. In any case, we imagine that Google will fix this problem ahead of Android 16’s release, so don’t worry too much about it.
