TikTok users in the US can now download the app direct from TikTok’s website. However, this option is only available for Android devices since it requires installing an APK file. iOS users will be out of luck on this front, at least for now. Android can simply enable “Install Unknown Apps” in their settings and get the app back.
This move comes after TikTok faced a potential ban in the US. US President Donald Trump recently granted the app a 75-day reprieve. However, the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store removed the app. This means that if you didn’t download the app already, you won’t be able to install it via official listings.
Sideloading TikTok
That being said, downloading APKs and sideloading them onto your phone carries risks, so stay cautious. Google Play and other app stores have strict review processes to prevent apps from hiding malware or behaving maliciously.
Granted, a direct download from TikTok is “safer” than third-party stores, but there is always the risk of supply chain infections. Also, updating the app isn’t as seamless compared to downloading from the Play Store directly. Users should keep those things in mind if they want to proceed with this.
That being said, with the official stores no longer an option, TikTok’s direct download offers a workaround. If users don’t already have the app installed or accidentally uninstalled it, they can now get it straight from TikTok’s website. This ensures they can still access the app, even as its future in the US remains uncertain.
It’s still unclear how the TikTok ban will unfold. Legal battles and government negotiations are ongoing. But for now, this download method keeps TikTok accessible for Android users in the US. If you missed out on downloading TikTok before it was pulled, this is your chance to get it back.
